We’re representing some of the Ft. Myers Beach rental voyeurism victims — and attorney Scot Goldberg has a lot to say on this troubling topic.
You’ve got to have a pretty sick mind to set out to secretly record someone for your own twisted pleasure. Yet that’s what law enforcement officials say was the motive of Robert McDuffie Moore of Lee County, a 53-year old ‘caretaker’ and property manager. Moore was arrested for allegedly placing tiny hidden cameras inside ordinary household items in order to capture images of unsuspecting people in a vacation rental home he co-owned and helped manage. Detectives found over 4,000 video clips of vacationers, captured by a tiny pinhole-style camera he had placed inside an ordinary alarm clock radio.
Moore reportedly admitted to ‘having an addiction’, compelling him to secretly record those staying in the rental home located on Fort Myers Beach. In one of what is thought to be many cases, a Minnesota family of 15 relatives rented the home in the early part of this year. They were made aware of the secluded cameras when detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office contacted them, and told them about the recordings.
Goldberg, Racila, D’Alessandro & Noone represents that family.
“With the technology available today, you can hide tiny recording devices inside just about anything”, says Scot D. Goldberg, Managing Partner of The Goldberg Firm. “It was reported that Moore was able to access and view the video images he was recording via his cell phone, and also on his laptop”, continued Goldberg. “Those types of capabilities were not even available just a few short years ago”.
The laptop belonging to Moore is at the center of this disturbing case, and as of this writing had not yet been located by police. Goldberg noted that the family, who thinks that every member of their extended family in the rental home at that time was caught on tape, has two main objectives in hiring a law firm; making sure that Moore is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and that any videos or images of them are destroyed permanently.
“With the ease of putting things on the internet these days, that’s one of the family’s main fears – that someone, somehow, sent the images to someone else, and they are already out there in cyberspace”, said Goldberg.
This is a truly sad and disgusting situation. Moore’s sickness has brought devastation to a family who should be remembering the fun times they shared on a beautiful Florida beach. Instead, they are traumatized and shocked, worrying that images of them could be anywhere at this point. Adding credence to the fact that Moore is a truly troubled man, he reportedly had hidden cameras installed in his own home.
There may be other rental properties with which Moore was involved as a so-called caretaker, owner, co-owner or property manager, authorities say. There is a very real possibility that many more victims will be coming forward. Detectives are contacting everyone who had stayed in the vacation properties that were arranged through Moore in the hopes of identifying all those who may have been illegally taped without their knowledge.
Goldberg points out that by representing the legal rights of the Minnesota family and aggressively pursuing legal action against Moore, he’s trying to send a message to other perverts out there who may be involved in such sick activities. “You may have some fetish or sickness that compels you to do this stuff, but when you get caught, we’re going to make sure the severity of the punishment fits the unbelievable depravity of your crimes.”
