A voluntary recall has been announced on April 2, 2013, affecting 3 different vehicles manufactured by The Ford Motor Company. The company said that possible leaks in the fuel tanks could cause a fire risk on some 2013 Ford Explorer, 2012 Ford Taurus and 2012 Lincoln MKS model vehicles.

The recall will involve about 3,037 cars and SUV’s, all manufactured at the company’s Chicago plant between July 19, 2011 and March 15, 2012. Affected owners will be instructed to take their vehicles to an authorized Ford dealer to have the fuel tanks inspected and replaced, if needed.

Burn injuries can cause severe personal trauma, and are classified medically into 4 different classifications. Factors dictating a burn’s severity include how deep the burn goes into the skin, the amount of body area covered by the burn, and also which part of the body is effected by the burn. The classifications are, from least severe to most severe:

  • First-degree: This example may include a serious sunburn
  • Second-degree: This type of burn penetrates 2 layers of the skin, resulting in pain, swelling, redness and blisters
  • Third-degree: Skin penetrated to the third layer, which can also cause nerve damage
  • Fourth-degree: Burns the skin through the fat, or third, layer and can reach muscle and bone

A burn injury can be one of the most painful types of injuries, especially when caused by the ignition of a highly flammable fluid, like gasoline. The Fort Myers personal injury lawyers at Goldberg, Racila, D’Alessandro & Noone advise you to be alert for the arrival of the Ford Recall Notification letter you should be receiving if you are the owner of one of the effected vehicles. The letters are scheduled to be mailed the week of April 22, 2013.
