April 19, 2013: Nissan Motors has announced the recall of about 19,000 Nissan and Infiniti SUVs because of a potentially dangerous brake part that may increase the risk of a serious auto accident.

The brake part is an iron caliper that was not made properly, and has the risk of cracking when the vehicle’s brakes are applied. If it breaks, the caliper can hit the wheel, significantly reducing the braking effectiveness and possibly causing a serious car crash.

The vehicle models affected are the Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti JX SUVs from the 2013 model year. The vehicles were manufactured from December 2, 2012 through January 29th, 2013. Nissan will begin notifying owners in May, asking them to take the car to their dealer and have the brake parts inspected and replaced free of charge if needed.

Defective vehicles cause hundreds of motor vehicle accidents each year, some resulting in serious physical injury and even death.
