Happy New Year from Goldberg, Racila, D'Alessandro & Noone

Is it just us, or did 2014 seem to really fly by?

As 2014 winds to a close, we find ourselves looking back at the entire year, and realizing how truly blessed we are. We live and work in one of the most beautiful spots in the world, surrounded by a tropical paradise with a fantastic overall quality of life. We can go fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, play golf in January and never touch a snow shovel.

Yet the key to our 2014 at Goldberg, Racila, D'Alessandro & Noone has been people, not places. The attorneys at our firm have been fortunate to develop personal, lasting relationships with so many of our clients over the past 12 months, and we cherish those friendships. At the end of each day, we are proud of the way we work with each and every client to help them solve their problems after they've been hurt through the fault of someone else. Our relationships with our clients may begin by accident, but so very often end in real, honest friendship.

That makes us feel good about 2014, and look forward to a fulfilling 2015.

When it comes to New Year's Eve and watching the ball drop on 2014, people pass the exact stroke of midnight in many different ways. Some people have traditions that last for years, and always have a plan, like going to a family member's house party – because that's what they've always done. Others make plans to dress up and go out to a lavish gala for the night, complete with a buffet dinner, the obligatory champagne toast at midnight and a reduced hotel room rate package.

Then there's a whole other group whose tradition is to do nothing at all, or as close to it as possible. They prepare the same meal every year, snuggle up in front of the tube and toast with diet soda at 10:00 pm, then call it a night.

Whatever your plans may be for ringing in the New Year, we hope you think about making it past midnight and into 2015 in one piece. There are those who say that they never go out on the road on New Year's Eve, because ‘that's when all the crazies are out'. And they're right. According to recent estimates from the National Safety Council, the New Year's holiday period – 6:00 p.m. December 31 through 11:59 January 1 – will result in 156 traffic fatalities and 16,700 medically consulted injuries this year. That time period is ranked #4 in the annual Holiday list of the most traffic deaths on our nation's roads – but #1 when it comes to the highest percentage of alcohol-impaired traffic deaths.

Whatever form of revelry suits you, we strongly urge you to refrain from getting behind the wheel if you've been drinking. It doesn't take much to plan to have a designated driver to get you home safe. And believe it when we say that paying for a cab is far less costly than paying for a DUI. In Southwest Florida, there a couple of alternative options. By logging onto www.BeMyDD.com or calling 877-UbymyDD, you can arrange for a driver to pick you and your car up, or to take you to and from where you need to go. This service is based on availability, so the sooner you book a driver, the better. AAA also provides their Tow-To-Go program, where a tow truck will be dispatched to bring you and your car home safely. (This service is suggested as a ‘last resort' option – you should make plans in advance so as to not find yourself in this situation). You can learn more by going here: http://autoclubsouth.aaa.com/safety/tow_to_go.aspx

We're here to help, and our focus on providing justice for our clients in 2015 is our most meaningful resolution. Our entire family of attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants and support staff all wish you a safe and fun New Year's Eve celebration, no matter what your traditions, and hope that 2015 brings you all the prosperity and happiness you deserve.
