Mass Marketing Doesn't Mean the Best Legal Representation

In our practice area of personal injury law here at Goldberg Noone, LLC, our clients don't generally ‘shop around' to find an attorney. People who have been hurt in some type of motor vehicle crash in Southwest Florida turn to us after the fact, when they realize they have some serious problems to deal with.

People in our area are bombarded with attorney ads on television, radio and online. Some law firms spend tens of millions of dollars buying television ad time – a little bit like a car dealer might. All of our competitors, for the most part, can be seen on TV, telling you why their firm is the one to hire after a crash. And while we do agree that keeping your law firm's name out there for the consumer to see can be an effective way of reaching people, there are far more significant methods of hiring a lawyer.

Does the law firm that you see on TV most often have any kind of edge in the practice of personal injury law? Nope – it just means they have chosen television exposure to get their name out. When some careless or reckless driver causes you to go through the devastation of a serious crash, hiring an attorney becomes a very critical decision.

5 Things To Do When Looking for a Personal Injury Attorney in Fort Myers

Just because a law firm has a bunch of lawyers on staff or spends a ton of money on self-promotion doesn't make them the right fit for your legal representation.

Here are 5 things you should do when you think you need a lawyer after a serious crash:

1). Ask Around

By far, the way we develop the majority of new client relationships is through personal referrals, when a current or past client passes our name along to a friend or relative. In many other cases, it's another local attorney who sends clients to Goldberg Noone, because they may not handle the very complex issues of personal injury law like we do.

It may surprise you to know that about 75% of our case load comes from the referrals of past clients. We've been around Southwest Florida for 16 years, helping people who've suffered a serious injury through absolutely no fault of their own. We're honored when they ask their friends, relatives or neighbors who they should call, and our name comes up. We're proud of the reputation we've built since we first opened our doors, and work every day to make sure that never changes.

Check with people you know and trust. As the saying goes, there's really no better advertising than word of mouth.

2). Think Local

You may have noticed our slogan on our website, or have seen it on our business cards. It reads Local People, Local Practice, Local Knowledge. Partner Scot D. Goldberg is a native of Southwest Florida, and grew up learning the personal injury law practice from his father. With all of our years of working with thousands of clients, we've learned that having local knowledge and insights into the court system, and the people who operate within it, positions Goldberg Noone as the local source for aggressive legal representation.

Recently, there have been a number of out-of-area law firms who advertise that they serve the Fort Myers region. (We think it's because of the staggering number of bad drivers around here). But in almost all cases, these lawyers work out of offices in Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale or elsewhere. They may have an office here, but seldom, if ever, show up.

If you want to meet in person with the lawyer whose name is on the door, think local and contact The Goldberg Law Firm.

3). Check Their Track Record

Any lawyer can get their photo taken in front of the courthouse, or sitting in front of a row of law books. That doesn't mean they've ever handled a personal injury court trial. Goldberg Noone attorneys are known for not being afraid to stand up against huge insurance companies to defend your legal rights, and get you the fair financial compensation you deserve for your injuries.

We're always happy to discuss our past success and case verdicts with you, and you can see some of our case details here.

The insurance companies we go up against fully understand that we prepare for every single case as if that case will end up in a courtroom. The reality is, we love going to trial, (you can see a short video of Scot Goldberg's thoughts on that topic here), and that's exactly the type of law firm you need in your corner after a serious crash.

4). Call Around - Communication is Everything

Talking to most personal injury lawyers for an initial consultation is generally free, with no obligation to hire that particular lawyer or firm.  At Goldberg Noone, we get calls every day – and even folks who see our building in Downtown Fort Myers and just walk in – asking whether they may have a case for filing a personal injury lawsuit.

The key is the response they get. Hiring the law firm or attorney who you see on TV most often does not guarantee they'll return your calls. In fact, we hear all the time about a client who called some of the more prominent law firms in town, and have never gotten a call back.

The attorneys at The Goldberg Law Firm have their cell phone numbers on their business cards. They are available day and night, weekends too. Just last weekend, two of our attorneys visited a new client in their Cape Coral home, as he was injured to the point of not being able to come to the office.

Calling our office or one of our attorney's cell phones any time you have a question or concern about your case results in immediate communication, and instant answers to your questions. Of course, you can always call and talk to us for free prior to making your decision on hiring a law firm. It doesn't cost a thing, and we'll be truthful with you about your specific situation.

5). Trust Your Instincts

If you speak to a personal injury lawyer on the phone or meet with them in person, you'll usually have a pretty good feeling about them when you're done – either one way or the other. People's instincts are generally pretty accurate, and you should listen you your gut.

Again, a big, impressive office building and billboards all across town don't mean the lawyers in that firm are the right fit for you, personally. You need a lawyer that you like, one that you feel comfortable with, and who demonstrates genuine concern for making your life whole again after a crash injury.

Is your attorney genuine? Do they show they're 100% committed to your case, and will work tirelessly to make sure you receive the settlement you are entitled to?  Heck, do they even call you back?

These are just a few of the things you need to consider if you find yourself needing a personal injury attorney. Hiring a law firm that you hear the most on television or radio can result in disappointment, and  is not an adequate way to make your decision.
